MATS HUMMELS TO THE PREMIER LEAGUE? ENGLISH CLUB NEGOTIATING WITH FREE AGENT AFTER BORUSSIA DORTMUND DEPARTURE
Brighton have initiated contact with Mats Hummels after his recent departure from Borussia Dortmund. The 35-year-old Germany international is attracting significant interest following his exit from Dortmund at the end of last season. Brighton has now entered the competition for his signature, joining several other clubs that have expressed interest in the experienced defender.
According to Sky Germany, Brighton's head coach, Fabian Hurzeler, is particularly interested in bolstering his squad with seasoned players and has a strong admiration for Hummels. The veteran center-back, who made a notable 508 appearances for Dortmund across two separate spells, fits the profile of the type of experience Hurzeler is seeking.
However, Brighton is not the only club keen on securing Hummels. The central defender has reportedly received multiple offers, with Premier League rivals West Ham also monitoring his situation. Additionally, Serie A club Bologna has made an offer, although it has been rejected by Hummels.
Despite being left out of Germany's squad for the European Championship, Hummels has not completely ruled out the possibility of retiring from professional football this summer. He has indicated that retirement is the "least likely scenario" but is still considering his options carefully. The prospect of joining a Premier League club would signal Hummels' belief that he has a lot of football left to play and is ready to take on the challenges of England’s top tier.
