Chelsea have reached an agreement with a Premier League competitor for the transfer of Lukaku

Chelsea have reached a transfer agreement for Romelu Lukaku with an unexpected Premier League competitor, following their frustration with Napoli

Chelsea have reportedly reached an agreement with Aston Villa for Romelu Lukaku, who is also a target for Napoli.

WHAT HAPPENED

After rejoining Chelsea for £97.5 million ($124.9 million) in the summer of 2021, seven years after his initial departure, Romelu Lukaku's future remains a major concern for the club for the third consecutive summer. The Belgian striker has not been able to make a significant impact at Stamford Bridge. As a result, Chelsea is now seeking to offload him on a permanent basis following two successive loan spells with Inter Milan and Roma.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

According to the Italian publication Il Mattino (via CalcioNapoli24), Aston Villa and Chelsea have come to an agreement regarding Lukaku's transfer, as Chelsea is eager to move the Belgian player due to his £325,000-per-week salary. However, the report indicates that Lukaku is not keen on relocating to Birmingham and is holding out for an opportunity with Napoli.

WHAT NEXT FOR LUKAKU

Chelsea initially aimed to resolve Lukaku's future before their pre-season tour in the United States. However, they now prefer to have the situation settled before the Premier League season kicks off, with Manchester City set to visit Stamford Bridge on August 18.
