Font admits Barca cannot sign Williams

Barcelona 'desperately need' Spain star Nico Williams, but a deal is 'impossible,' according to former presidential candidate

Barcelona presidential candidate Victor Font has stated that the club is not financially capable of acquiring Nico Williams this summer.

Font discussed his aspirations of becoming the president of FC Barcelona with The Athletic, revealing that he ran for the position in 2021 and plans to run again in 2026. Despite his ambitions, he maintains that the club currently lacks the financial resources to secure Williams' signing.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Williams has a release clause set at €58 million (£48m/$63m), but it appears he may prefer to stay at Athletic Club following an offer for a new contract. Although Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal, and Chelsea have shown interest, he might opt to remain at San Mamés rather than pursue a high-profile transfer.

WHAT FONT SAID

I hope we can bring Nico Williams on board since that's what we need. Although President Joan Laporta has mentioned it's a possibility, that's not the case right now. It can't be done today. We’re hopeful it might be feasible in the near future, but for now, it's not possible.
