MANCHESTER UNITED ARE CONSIDERING A £50 MILLION TRANSFER FOR BRIGHTON'S PROMISING YOUNG TALENT EVAN FERGUSON, AFTER STRUGGLING TO FINISH CHANCES DURING THEIR COMMUNITY SHIELD DEFEAT TO MANCHESTER CITY
Manchester United are exploring the possibility of acquiring Brighton's Evan Ferguson after their attackers delivered a lackluster performance in the Community Shield match.
On Saturday, Manchester United’s offensive players struggled to make an impact as they fell short in a dramatic penalty shootout, losing 7-6 to Manchester City in the Community Shield. Marcus Rashford, in particular, had a challenging game, missing a clear opportunity and another straightforward chance during normal time. The team’s attacking woes are further compounded by several injuries, including to star forward Rasmus Hojlund. Hojlund is expected to be sidelined until late September, which leaves United short of attacking options. Although new signing Joshua Zirkzee has joined the team for pre-season, he is anticipated to take some time before making his competitive debut at Old Trafford.
Given Erik ten Hag’s current shortage of effective attacking players, there is growing speculation that Manchester United could make a move for young Brighton forward Evan Ferguson. The Daily Star reports that United, long-time admirers of Ferguson, are contemplating a bid of £50 million (€58m/$50m) for the promising striker. Ferguson had a challenging season last year due to a series of injuries but still managed to make 36 appearances across all competitions, scoring six goals and providing one assist.
Chelsea has also reignited their interest in Ferguson, adding another layer of competition for his signature. The future of the young forward remains uncertain as it is yet to be seen whether Brighton will be willing to part with their talented player during this summer transfer window.
