Owen warns that it could damage Alexander-Arnold's reputation if he moves to Real Madrid

MICHAEL OWEN HAS WARNED THAT A POTENTIAL TRANSFER TO REAL MADRID COULD HARM TRENT ALEXANDER-ARNOLD'S REPUTATION, AS HIS CONTRACT DISPUTE WITH LIVERPOOL PERSISTS

As Trent Alexander-Arnold’s future at Liverpool remains uncertain amidst an ongoing contract stand-off, former Reds striker Michael Owen has issued a stark warning regarding the player's potential move to Real Madrid. Speaking to the press, Owen warned that leaving Liverpool for the Spanish giants would be a decision that could “tarnish” Alexander-Arnold’s career.

The Liverpool right-back, widely regarded as one of the best in the world in his position, has been at the heart of Jurgen Klopp's tactical setup for years. With his sublime crossing ability and intelligent positioning, he has revolutionized the right-back role and become an iconic figure at Anfield. However, rumors of a potential move to Real Madrid have sparked concern among Liverpool fans, especially as talks over a new contract have stalled.

While Alexander-Arnold’s current deal runs until 2025, speculation is rife that Real Madrid could swoop in should the contract impasse persist. The Spanish club is known for its ambitious recruitment policy, regularly targeting world-class talent from across Europe. Yet, Owen, who enjoyed a prolific career both at Liverpool and Real Madrid, believes that such a move could damage the 25-year-old’s reputation in the long run.

Speaking on the matter, Owen commented: “I think if Trent leaves Liverpool for Real Madrid at this stage of his career, it could tarnish him. He is a legend at Liverpool, one of the best players in their history. Real Madrid is a massive club, but moving there could risk overshadowing everything he’s achieved at Liverpool.”

Owen further emphasized that Alexander-Arnold’s legacy at Liverpool could be jeopardized if he chooses to leave at a time when his stock is at its highest. “Sometimes, players can leave at the wrong time. When you're at a club like Liverpool, where you’re adored by the fans and have achieved so much, leaving could undermine all that. I don’t think a move to Madrid would be the right choice for him.”

Despite the warning, Owen acknowledged that Real Madrid’s interest in the English international is not surprising. With the Spanish club facing an aging squad in some areas, bolstering their defense and adding quality to their right flank could be an attractive proposition. However, Owen remained firm in his belief that Alexander-Arnold should resist the lure of Madrid and continue to build on his legacy at Liverpool.

“It’s all about timing,” Owen added. “Trent is still young, but he's already made such a huge impact at Liverpool. Moving to Real Madrid could be a big change for him, but I believe his legacy at Liverpool is far more valuable.”

As the stand-off between Alexander-Arnold and Liverpool’s hierarchy continues, questions remain over the future of one of the Premier League’s brightest talents. While Real Madrid looms as a potential suitor, Alexander-Arnold’s ultimate decision will likely shape not only his career but also the direction Liverpool takes in the years to come. With a growing number of high-profile clubs keen to take advantage of the situation, the coming months will be crucial for both the player and the club as they look to resolve this delicate contract situation.
