Max Eberl, the sporting director for Bayern Munich, has recently addressed the ongoing speculation regarding Matthijs de Ligt's potential transfer to Manchester United. The Dutch central defender has been the subject of intense transfer rumors this summer, with United showing a strong interest in acquiring him. Despite these rumors, de Ligt has already joined Vincent Kompany's squad for pre-season training, indicating that he is not currently on the verge of a move to Old Trafford.
Manchester United, however, continues to be determined to secure de Ligt’s signature, and they are also pursuing his teammate, right-back Noussair Mazraoui. In response to the speculation, Eberl has shared that Bayern Munich will take a careful and considered approach to any decisions regarding de Ligt’s future. He highlighted that the club will weigh multiple factors, including de Ligt's own preferences, before making a final call.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Eberl commented, “I will address the reasons for any potential move to Manchester United when the time is right. Currently, it is not the appropriate moment to discuss it in detail. Matthijs has had a commendable two years with us and is well-regarded by the fans. However, any decisions made will take into account both the strategic considerations and how the player feels about the situation. For now, he remains a part of FC Bayern, and we will continue to support him fully.”
Following a recent 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur during a pre-season match in South Korea, Bayern Munich is set to face Tottenham again on August 10 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
