Leverkusen consider Matip as a possible replacement for Tah

XABI ALONSO PLANS LIVERPOOL RAID! BAYER LEVERKUSEN PREPARES TO SIGN JOEL MATIP AS JONATHAN TAH NEARS A MOVE TO BAYERN MUNICH

Bayer Leverkusen are eyeing Joel Matip as a potential successor to Jonathan Tah, should Tah make a move to Bayern Munich. Leverkusen's head coach, Xabi Alonso, is currently evaluating his options to replace Tah if Bayern Munich decides to pursue the German defender during this summer transfer window. According to Sky Sports Germany, Joel Matip, who is currently a free agent, is one of the top candidates for the Bundesliga champions if they find themselves needing to enter the transfer market. Alonso, who previously turned down the opportunity to manage Liverpool after Jurgen Klopp stepped down as head coach, might still have the chance to collaborate with one of Liverpool’s long-standing defenders. Despite being 32 years old, Matip is still considered a capable player who can significantly contribute to Leverkusen’s efforts to defend their title.

Joel Matip has been a commendable asset for Liverpool over the years, although he missed the entire second half of the 2023-24 season. During the nine Premier League matches he participated in, he only experienced defeat once, playing a role in Liverpool securing a third-place finish. This summer, Jonathan Tah has been engaged in helping Germany compete in Euro 2024 but is expected to return to Leverkusen shortly for the pre-season preparations. Bayern Munich has been active in the transfer market, notably with Vincent Kompany, and they are in a strong position to move for Matip if required. The negotiation process with Matip is straightforward since Bayern would only need to reach an agreement directly with the player. This strategic move could bolster their defensive lineup and provide Leverkusen with the experienced defender they need for their upcoming campaign.
