Liverpool is considering a £52 million transfer for Zubimendi

LIVERPOOL EXPLORES £52M MARTIN ZUBIMENDI TRANSFER AS ARNE SLOT SEEKS TO FILL 'PRIORITY' POSITION—BUT REDS COULD FACE STIFF COMPETITION FROM MAN UTD

Liverpool are reportedly showing significant interest in acquiring Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad, as indicated by a recent report. According to The Athletic, Liverpool is actively exploring a potential deal to bring Zubimendi to Anfield this summer. The Reds are in the market for a new defensive midfielder to strengthen their squad, and they have pinpointed Zubimendi, a standout performer in the Euro 2024 tournament, as a crucial target.

Zubimendi's current contract includes a release clause of £52 million, which Liverpool would need to pay in full to secure his transfer. This amount is stipulated to be paid in entirety unless Real Sociedad is willing to entertain a reduction, which remains uncertain at this point. Alongside Liverpool, several other top clubs have expressed interest in Zubimendi, including Arsenal, Barcelona, and Manchester United. Despite this, it is not clear whether Zubimendi is ready to make a move, as none of the interested parties have yet managed to persuade him to commit.

Zubimendi played a significant role in Spain's Euro 2024-winning campaign, featuring in their last group stage match against Albania and coming on as a substitute during the final after an injury to Rodri. Liverpool, facing a shortage in their midfield following the departures of Thiago, and the sales of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho in previous transfer windows, are keen to finalize a deal for a new defensive midfielder before the start of the Premier League season. Their first match of the new season is scheduled against Ipswich Town on August 17, making the acquisition of Zubimendi—or an alternative target—a pressing priority.
