LIVERPOOL FACES A SETBACK AS NEWCASTLE DEVISES A STRATEGY TO PREVENT THE REDS FROM PURSUING ANTHONY GORDON

Newcastle are set to initiate contract negotiations with Anthony Gordon in the coming weeks to thwart Liverpool’s attempts to sign the winger. Following Gordon’s standout performance last season, which caught Liverpool’s eye, Newcastle aims to reward him with a new deal. The 23-year-old, formerly of Everton, scored 11 goals and provided 10 assists in 35 Premier League appearances and also represented England at Euro 2024. Gordon was reportedly on the verge of a surprise move to Liverpool in July, but the transfer fell through after Newcastle sold Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson, and amid efforts to address PSR violations. Gordon, who grew up as a Liverpool fan and admired former captain Steven Gerrard, will see discussions on a contract extension when he returns from pre-season next week. Newcastle hopes to secure Gordon’s future with a long-term contract to deter further interest from Liverpool.
