PSG FINALIZES JOAO NEVES SIGNING! THE LIGUE 1 CHAMPIONS SECURE THE PORTUGUESE SUPERSTAR IN A €70M DEAL FROM BENFICA

Paris Saint-Germain has announced the acquisition of Joao Neves from Benfica for a fee potentially reaching €70 million (£60m/$76m).

After an outstanding season with Benfica in 2023-24, the 19-year-old drew interest from Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United, and other clubs. Despite Manchester United's attempts and rejected bids for the Portugal international, the Ligue 1 champions emerged victorious in the competition.

PSG's website states that Neves has signed a five-year contract, keeping him at the club until the summer of 2029. As part of this agreement, Renato Sanches will move to Benfica on loan with an option to buy. Neves, considered one of Europe's most promising young talents, is a significant acquisition for PSG. The defensive midfielder, who has nine caps for Portugal, expressed his excitement about joining PSG: “I’m very proud to be joining Paris Saint-Germain, a very ambitious Club. I'm going to give my all to help my team-mates, to grow at this fantastic Club and to win numerous titles." Neves is expected to debut for PSG in their season opener against Le Havre on August 16. Meanwhile, the impact of Neves' arrival on PSG midfielder Manuel Ugarte, who has been linked with a move to Manchester United this summer, remains uncertain.
