Real Madrid's chase for Arsenal's Saliba suffers major setback

REAL MADRID FACE A SETBACK IN THEIR PURSUIT OF WILLIAM SALIBA AFTER IDENTIFYING THE ARSENAL DEFENDER AS THEIR 'TOP TARGET FOR 2025

Real Madrid's pursuit of Arsenal defender William Saliba appears to be facing significant obstacles, as the Spanish giants attempt to make the 23-year-old their top defensive target for the 2025 transfer window. Saliba has developed into one of the world’s best central defenders during his time at Arsenal, becoming a crucial figure in the Gunners' recent rise as contenders in both the Premier League and Europe.

After Real Madrid missed out on signing promising young defender Leny Yoro, who moved to Manchester United, they turned their attention to Saliba. Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti and the club’s hierarchy have reportedly earmarked the Frenchman as the ideal candidate to bolster their defensive options, especially as they aim to secure a long-term replacement for their aging center-backs.

Saliba, who is under contract at Arsenal until 2027, is seen as untouchable by his current club. Arsenal are determined to retain the services of their defensive star, having invested heavily in his development and seeing him as integral to their long-term project under manager Mikel Arteta. Saliba has thrived at the Emirates, becoming a fan favorite due to his impressive performances, and it is clear that Arsenal view him as a vital part of their future plans.

Moreover, Arsenal have reportedly set a significant asking price for Saliba—likely exceeding £100 million—if they are ever to consider selling him. This price reflects both the player's importance to the team and the inflated market for top-tier defenders in recent years.

Real Madrid, though prepared to spend, would find themselves in a tough financial negotiation, particularly given their recent big-money signings and plans for further squad reinforcement.

Additionally, Saliba’s personal connection to Arsenal makes any potential move to Madrid even more complicated. The French international has expressed his deep affinity for the club, having grown up admiring Arsenal legends like Thierry Henry. Saliba's focus remains on Arsenal, where he has expressed happiness playing at a high level and competing for trophies.

Real Madrid, meanwhile, are not putting all their eggs in one basket. The club is reportedly considering other options if the move for Saliba fails to materialize. Names like Castello Lukeba (Lyon) and Jorrel Hato (Ajax) are on their radar, alongside other young talents they have been scouting. This multi-target approach indicates that while Saliba remains a priority, Real Madrid is keeping their options open to avoid being left without reinforcement in their defense.

Despite Madrid’s interest, Arsenal’s firm stance and Saliba’s apparent commitment to the Gunners suggest that a transfer is far from imminent. Unless Real Madrid are willing to break the bank and persuade both Arsenal and the player, Saliba is likely to remain at the heart of the Arsenal defense for the foreseeable future.
